I took this sequence of shots at San Clemente Beach, CA, USA. To me, this was one of those rare once in a lifetime moments. I was sitting on the surf side of the pier with my wife to watch the sun set and see if I could get any cool surf shots. I had no idea the older surfer was going to high five the young surfer. The older surfer was, to me, the quintessential "surfer dude". He and his board looked like they spent their life out in the waves and he had mad surfing skills. The boy was just playing with a board in the low waves. I'm not sure he even knew how to surf. If you look at the series and watch the young boy's face at first he seems confused, maybe a little afraid, and then when he realizes he's getting a high five from the super hero of surfers, his face lights up. I can just imagine that this moment will be one of those ones that young man will remember forever, maybe even to reflect back on as he's being interviewed by ESPN after his 3rd world championship. I keep looking...
